Official: Russia to protect interests if EU confiscates assets
MOSCOW, Feb 16 (PRIME) -- Russia will take measures in order to protect its interests if the E.U. decides to confiscate the frozen assets in favor of Kiev, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said on Thursday.
"Of course, we will assess the situation and, if needed, take all necessary measures to protect our lawful interests," Grushko said.
The official added that the E.U. actions are illegal, and many countries have doubts about success of possible confiscation and its compliance with the international norms.
The E.U. permanent representatives approved establishment of a workgroup to consider using frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine on Wednesday.
